Martín Álvarez Díaz

Born in Oviedo, Spain, Martín began playing the cello at the age of four. He studied in Salamanca with Aldo Mata and Lorenzo Meseguer, and completed his Master's with distinction at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague under Lucia Swarts. Passionate about chamber music, he has performed across Spain, the Netherlands, and Cyprus with ensembles including the Trems and Loksias Quartets, earning chamber music awards in 2013 and 2014. As a freelance artist, Martín explores interdisciplinary performance, appearing at festivals such as Delft Fringe, Orlando Festival, and Buffer Fringe in Nicosia.

At the age of four, Martín received his first cello lessons in Oviedo (Spain). He studied his Bachelor in Salamanca under Aldo Mata and Lorenzo Meseguer and Masters in Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag with Lucia Swarts completed with merits and distinction.

Very interested in chamber music, he performed on various stages and theatres in the Netherlands, Spain and Cyprus as a member of the Trems and Loksias String Quartet. Martín was the winner of chamber music awards in 2013 and 2014 and a finalist of the International Cello Competition (2018) in Llanes.

As a freelancer musician, he develops shows and performances based on interdisciplinarity, participating in – among others – the Delft Fringe Festival, Orlando Festival or Buffer Fringe 2022 in Nicosia (Cyprus).
